FAQ

We may already answered your question here!

1. If the artist doesn’t have the license of an avatar base that I want to edit, do I have to pay an extra for this?

Yes, to compensate the cost of the license for the artist. This fee is the 50% of the base price of the avatar base that you want to commission. Some bases may include "DLCs" or "Variants" such as "+ Clothes, +SPP, etc.", in this case the fee will be the same but if the customer only want a texture of the body and not the assets then the artist will charge the half of the "base variant".

2. My commission order is taking a long time (more than 30 days), is it cancelled or abandoned?

If you suspect that the artist may have overlooked your order, please reach out to them as soon as possible. All commission orders are tracked on our dedicated commission track system. Please keep in mind that VRChat Avatar commissions differ significantly from 2D drawings, which may result in longer completion times. Your cooperation throughout the process is also essential to ensure a timely and successful outcome.

3. Why the artist cannot upload the avatar for me?

Uploading an avatar for others is considered “account linking” keeping in mind that we’re sharing the same client agent (VRC SDK in this case), the same IP address as well the same location. In the event that either your account or the artist's account receives a ban on VRChat, both accounts will be linked to that ban. We’ll ask you to install Unity Hub and VRChat Creator Companion before we proceed with the commission and before we finish the commission. For instruction to How to upload private avatars, see section 5.

4. How do I upload my private avatar?

1. Make sure you've downloaded the .unitypackage file that the artist is going to give to you.
2. Make sure you’ve installed the following software:
- Unity Hub (requires Unity ID login, just sign up and choose the Unity Personal license)
- Choose a project manager. We recommend VRChat Creator Companion for beginners.
3. Once you got the required software, open Unity Hub and sign in with your Unity ID account, then open your project manager and it may ask you to install Unity Editor 2022.3.22f1, click on Install Unity, it may take a while.

4.1 Setup the project

1. Setup a new project in the VCC, should be Avatar 2022 . You may want to change the project location too but this step is optional. Make sure to ask the artist the dependencies to install before you open the project.
2. Once you’ve installed the dependencies for the project, open the project, the Unity splash window should appear and it may take a while to open the Unity Editor window.
3. Drag and drop the .unitypackage you got from the artist to the Project section (bottom section), press All to select all and click Import.
4. You’ll find your commissioned avatar in a folder with your name, double click to go through folders and lookup for PC scene (it looks like the Unity logo), double click to open it, you should see your avatar in the Scene view.
5. At the top of the Unity editor, you’ll find a toolbar, select VRChat SDK > Show Control Panel , expect a floating window, you can pin this window by dragging from the “VRChat SDK” tab and dropping next to the Inspector section.
6. Select your avatar in the Hierarchy (left section), complete the VRChat SDK form to upload your avatar, make sure to check the validations below, press Build and Publish, and accept the copyright terms.

5. What about Quest avatars?

If you asked for a Quest version of your avatar, you’ll see a Quest scene in your folder. Make sure to switch the build compiler to Android in the VRChat’s SDK Builder tab. If you find issues while trying to upload the Quest version of your avatar, please let us know. If you don’t have a Quest scene you can copy and paste the PC scene, you might need to remove some assets, and you’ll have to replace the materials, use Standard Lite shader for Quest materials (recommend to copy and paste your Materials folder and rename it to Materials Quest ).

6. Can I have support after the commission?

Yes, you’ll have long-term support of 6 (six) months after the artist and you consider the avatar as finished. The support includes free medium-small changes and factory fault fixes (Artist’s mistakes). However, this support can be revoked if you had modified your avatar too much, like making big changes to FX layer or added too much prefabs/assets, ask to the artist to receive support! If you’ve modified the texture, artist will only provide support for the stock texture (the texture provided to the customer) and not to the modified one.

7. I can't open my Substance Painter file, what can I do?

Make sure you have the latest version of Substance Painter installed. We use Substance Painter 11.0.3. If you still can't open the file, please contact the artist for assistance, we may provide you with an alternative format (FBX).
